The Peter Pan Centre for Children with Special Needs was originally formed in 1969 as a playgroup for children with special needs and has grown into the specialist development Centre it is today rated as Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in December 2015.
The Peter Pan Playgroup was founded in 1969 by Dr Mary Thomas and Dr Pat Edge. Both women were Consultants at the hospital and were mothers of children with special needs. The Nursery continued to develop over time and ran from the Orme Centre, Newcastle under Lyme. In 2011, we moved to fantastic new purpose built premises on Hoon Avenue and became The Peter Pan Centre for Children with Special Needs.
There is no statutory provision for children with special needs under the age of 5, this is why our service is vital.
Our Centre is unique in many ways a key reason being that families can self-refer to our Centre and children do not require a formal diagnosis to attend. This is because some children can wait several years for a diagnosis or can simply remain undiagnosed.
Our aim is to maximise the potential of children with special needs.
